The Series Have Begun: The Count B Pacing Series underway at Woodbine
Friday’s action at Woodbine marked the beginning of the 3YO Pacing Series with the kickoff of the Count B Pacing Series. As mentioned previously, this field doesn’t necessarily feature the game’s elite pacers, but the field did look very competitive, and the rest of the series should be strong.
The first division on Friday went to Totally Impressive, who wasn’t too impressive to the betting public but ran quite well to pull the minor upset in 1:55.2. The gelding, driven by Ron Waples and trained by Hall of Fame-horseman Bob McIntosh, jumped to an early lead and held off the late-charging Playing Solitare, who sat well off the pace before making his impressive run. Cactus Jack, who in the Snowshoe Series had show some guts in beating older pacers, got up for third. The post-time favorite, Mustang Art, was beginning to make his charge going into the stretch before breaking and finishing near the back.
The victor in the second division proved to be even more impressive as the favorite Come Back wired the field, pacing in 1:54.1, posting one of the best 2010 times for the 3YO pacing class. The I Am A Fool colt won the division by 3 3/4 lengths over Lake Shark, while Bruisers Brother finished a well-beaten 3rd.
The Count B Series will resume with the 2nd leg on Friday, February 5 at Woodbine, and RoadtotheJug will be here to follow the action.
